Tod Maffin should read before he writes ...

When Tod Maffin printed this piece yesterday, I guess he didn't bother to read it first before writing the headline ...

Some people will call me a "Language Cop." But I bristle at the term.

Tod Maffin Is Getting A Bad Buzz

A few days ago, Tod Maffin started to get some heat for a story he posted (here), wherein he tried to incorporate his idea of "humour".
In a piece about the RCMP spying on Rene Levesque and the CBC some 40 years ago, he decided to refer to the police as "pigs", then pretend he changed his mind, crossed it out, and referred to them more respectfully.
He's a rebel, don't you know.
(mostly rebelling against the concept of simple honesty, and what's funny).

First to pick up on his idiocy and bad taste was Dust My Broom.

But then a more widely viewed blog picked it up as well.

The comments began to build ...

and Tod The P.R. Expert went into action ...

Note that Tod doesn't deny writing the piece.

But all of a sudden, he's decided to come clean and reveal that insidecbc is also written by people other than himself (!)

Why bring that up when the discussion is only about one particular post?

Yipes.
Doesn't look like the "Official Blog" is reflecting well on the CBC.

But now a more disturbing and more serious issue has been put on the table.
How long have others been writing the insidecbc blog while Tod Maffin was taking credit for the postings?

And who has been allowed to moderate the comments?

And most of all, WHY HAVE WE BEEN MISLEAD AS TO THE AUTHORSHIP OF THE OFFICIAL BLOG OF THE CBC?

As Mr. T would say ...

It's true. I am indeed in love with Tod Maffin.
As I am with all of the creatures who inhabit our planet.
But that doesn't mean that I'm going to buy into stupidity, deceit, religious fanaticism, or Brian Mulroney's sworn testimony.
Maffin is of special interest to me because of what it says about the CBC and it's management, as well as what it says about how people manipulate, exploit and just plain fool the trusting souls who haven't learned to apply a critical eye and mind to what they are served by media.

I have many, many issues with Tod Maffin as a representative of the CBC, and as someone who sets themselves up above others as a techno-wiene, and manipulates information to make things appear to be something other than what they really are.

A good example is provided even in just the simple drop-in by Tod above.
When you look at the web page of insidecbc, it is clearly stated that this site is "penned" by Tod Maffin ... well, actually, it was until a few minutes ago.
He's suddenly changed the credit to include others.
Suddenly, he wants to distance himself from the stupidity of some of the things written there.
But until now, Tod was the sole writer of everything there, at least he was yesterday.
For more than a year, the credit has read
"Inside The CBC is the CBC's official employee blog. It's penned by Tod Maffin, the CBC's national technology columnist."
and that's how it appeared on the day the "Gig Is Up Comrade" story was published.
Now that he's getting flack for his pea-brained idea of a joke, he suddenly comes forward to say that he may or may not actually be responsible for the article.
And he quickly changes a year-old credit to
"Inside The CBC is the CBC's official employee blog. It is written and moderated by a variety of CBC employees. Editor: Tod Maffin"

What kind of bullshit is that?

And worse, how does the CBC justify this kind of integrity and ethical approach to publishing information?

My problem with Tod Maffin came to a head when I wrote a remark about him at The Tea Makers blog, and Tod threatened legal action unless it was removed. So the blog owner removed it.
Hey man, that's my freedom of speech you're stepping on.
So I published the remarks again, this time on my own blog.
And what do you know, no lawsuit.
After almost 300 posts at my own attempt at "satire", Tod Maffin is now writing "love letters" to me, asking me to please continue exposing what a phony he is.
No problem. I've plenty of material to work with!

I'm particularly sensitive to people who use the internet to fool or abuse others.
I'm not unmindful that there's a difference between what's journalism and what's public relations - a field in which Tod Maffin considers himself an expert.

One day he claims that he writes everything, and when it suddenly suits his purposes, he claims that he doesn't.

That's Tod Maffin.
That's the CBC.
OK. That's the worst of the CBC.

Why is Tod MaFfin so stupid?

Brokeback Maffin?

Just what is Tod Maffin getting at here?
I don't know at the moment because Mr. Unhelpful won't let me see the whole post ...

I Embrace My Inner Cowboy Poet
I am a cowboy.
(Allow me to explain, while you catch your breath from laughing.)
I was always a bit of a loner as a kid.
My childhood best friend, Derek T., was really the only person I’d hang out with. While other kids were playing Soldier or burning ants with magnifying glasses, we were playing Radio Station. [...]

this isn't Derek T., is it?

Tod Maffin is not a Prick. He's a Dick.

There's only a subtle difference, I realize.
In Tod's most recent comment here he wrongly, erroneously, incorrectly referred to this space as "Tod Maffin is a prick ".
It isn't.

I've never thought of Tod as a prick.
I've thought of him as a twit, a twat, a dick, a dork, a nerd and an asshole.

Tod Maffin has a point - 'cause he's a little prick*

Use it while reading insidecbc

Tod Maffin: Pig-Headed

In a recent blog post at

Tod the immature, asinine Maffin repeatedly refers to the brave men and women of the RCMP as "pigs".

Let me assure you, Tod, that even if you could travel back to the Sixties and be a hippie, you'd still be an asshole.

"Let me know if there is anything I can do to support you" - Tod Maffin

Uh hun.
Ok, Tod, you can spare me the inconvenience of going to another computer to access your stupid blog

Tod Maffin Asks: "why can't I post anonymously?"

P.S. As an aside, for someone who claims to be a champion of "free speech," isn't it peculiar that you don't allow anonymous comments?

To Tod Maffin's mom, he'll always be a winner

From 2005

"Some bg: My son, Tod (who was the founder of "Anglicans Online" -
egads ... that's ten years ago!) has been a CBC (Canada's national
broadcaster) radio personality, technology consultant and program
host. One of the things he does as a hobby is to put out a blog
called "I Love Radio."

Well, it seems that it has been nominated for a prestigious award -
the Business Blogging Awards (proud Mom beams from ear to ear! )
and the decision will go this Tuesday to the technology blog that gets
the most votes. So, what's the favour?

It's that you will "vote" online for "I Love Radio" at Business Awards
today before midnight."

Why Does Craig Silverman Want To Kiss Tod Maffin's Butt?

A skill testing question:

Why this post?

Craig prides himself in spotting errors in the media, yet he's apparently not around for the many times Tod has gone "oops".
When you see Craig's blog, and are eventually able to stop your heart from racing at what an incredibly significant person he is, it's very strange that he would care about how instant replay came to be.
It's entirely a ruse. Just a sly device to kiss Tod Maffin's butt, because he sees a chance at networking with someone else who knows "the game".
But what do I know.
I'm not as important as someone who is "a member of the Board of Directors of the Concordia Journalism Alumni Association".
I think they meet in a treehouse.

... and how would you define Conflict of Interest, Tod Maffin?

From

http://www.craigsilverman.ca/2007/11/origin-of-the-i.html

I noticed as well, Francis, that you crossed out "radio" and wrote "social media" over it.
Perhaps that's appropriate.
But then could you point out for me where radio comes into the picture when Tod Maffin writes about The Future of Social Media for the Tyee web publication.
Do tell.
Because you two seem to have different opinions about just what is social media.

What's your problem?

Tod Maffin's version of absolute power.
I wrote a comment at a famous blog.
Tod didn't like it, and took the intial steps of legal action to have it removed.
He was successful.

It made me an unhappy camper.
And I happen to really like it here.
